Types of Single Ply Membranes

Single-ply membranes come in 3 distinct styles, each offering a different set of benefits to your commercial or industrial building.

EPDM: Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer, or EPDM as it is known in the industry, resembles natural rubber and is mostly black in color though white on black is growing popular. EPDM is incredibly flexible and durable material. It can also hold out against the elements and is very low maintenance.

TPO: Thermo Plastic Olefin, or TPO, is a versatile material that accounts for 50% of the single-ply membrane market. It comes with a reflective coating that blocks UV rays, keeping your building much cooler in summer, and significantly reducing cooling costs. A variety of colors are available to match your building’s theme.

PVC: Short for Poly Vinyl Chloride, PVC is a chemical resistant and extremely durable roofing membrane. It is the preferred choice roofing material for most food manufacturers and processors. Depending on the manufacturer, the membrane can come prefabricated for your flat commercial roof with all accessories and most seams welded.

Valley Hill Roofing will install your favorite single-ply membrane so you can reap the full rewards that come with it. We source our roofing membranes from industry leaders like Versico, Genflex, or American WeatherStar.

Why Use Single Ply Membranes for Commercial Roofs?

There are many reasons to consider a single ply membrane for your next commercial roof replacement or roof renovation job.

Super light and flexible: Membranes are lightweight, and this relieves pressure on your commercial flat roof. You can choose the number of layers and the membrane’s thickness. We can even accommodate unique designs for your flat or low slope roof application.

Easy to install: We can attach the membrane to the cover board using ballast, adhesive, or mechanical fasteners. That’s all. There’s no need for dangerous torches or hot asphalt.  Seams are either heat-welded or chemically adhered together.  Done properly, this develops into a single layer of protection for your roofing structure.

Energy efficient: Light colored membranes reflect up to 85% of the sun’s UV rays away from your roof, reducing the building’s heat load in summer and reducing cooling costs by 30-50%, depending on location.

Cost efficient:  Single-ply membranes are generally less expensive than most other renovation options.
